MDF Attends Leveling-off Session on Climate Change and Cities
Muntinlupa Development Foundation (MDF) attended the Leveling-off Session on Climate Change and Cities held at the Marine Science Institute, University of the Philippines-Diliman, Quezon City last January 23. The leveling-off session was sponsored by the Philippine-Misereor Partnership Inc. (PMPI).
This was participated by PMPI NCR Urban Cluster including the Partnership of Philippine Support Service Agencies (PHILSSA) Secretariat, Caucus of Development Non-Government Organizations (CODE-NGO), John J. Carroll Institute on Church and Social Issues (JJCICSI), Community Organizers Multiversity (COM), Urban Poor Associates (UPA), TAO-Pilipinas, Inc., Foundation for the Development of Urban Poor (FDUP), and Integrative Medicine for Alternative Healthcare Systems Philippines, Inc. (INAM).
Dr. Laura David, Marine Science Institute Director, gave a lecture on Climate Change Concepts and Implications. This was followed by a reflection and discussion on the Transformative Power of Cities facilitated by Arch. Arlene Lusterio, TAO-Pilipinas Executive Director.
Mr. Benedict Balderrama, PHILSSA National Coordinator, facilitated a very compelling realization towards development planning. It is a known fact that the NGOs in the field of community upgrading engage with cities mainly involving housing, social services, and development planning. It is seldom engaged on other policies, programs and plans, except when tenurial security of partner communities are at risk.
Now, there is a great need to address and mitigate climate change. Pursuing new areas of engagement such as efficient transportation, clean and renewable energy policies, systems, and projects should be part of the development planning.
